Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Turf

The University of Guelph and the Guelph Turfgrass Institute are dedicated to fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within the turfgrass industry. Through education, research, and outreach, we strive to create an inclusive environment that welcomes individuals from all backgrounds. By promoting diverse perspectives and supporting equitable opportunities, we aim to cultivate a stronger, more innovative industry that reflects the communities it serves.

The Women in Turf Showcase, held on March 19, 2025, at the Guelph Turfgrass Institute, featured a presentation by Christine Fraser, a pioneering golf course architect. The hybrid event attracted 37 in-person attendees and 4 online participants, including faculty, staff, students from the Diploma in Turfgrass Management and Bachelor of Landscape Architecture programs, and industry professionals.

The event fostered a lively discussion on enhancing accessibility in golf for and addressing the challenges women face in the turfgrass industry. Christine Fraser shared her personal experiences, highlighting instances such as being denied entry to a men-only clubhouse, to illustrate the gender-based obstacles prevalent in the field.

This engaging conversation was recorded and adapted into a podcast episode for Canadian Turf Talks, extending its reach to a broader audience interested in equity, diversity, and inclusion within the turfgrass community.
