Lots of things on the go at the GTI as we move into the season. The most exciting development has been the pilot project between the GTI and Guelph Soccer. The two mini-fields shown above are active most evenings and weekends. We are planning to do overseeding and irrigation scheduling trials on the fields and see how the treatments interact with field use and wear.
If you are interested in checking out the sports fields pilot project as well as the many other interesting projects being carried out at the GTI this summer, mark your calendar for August 21st and plan to attend our Summer Research Field Day. Watch for details in future issues of the GTI Advisor.
Bill 64 Update
The proposed Ontario pesticide ban continues to move with lightning speed through the legislative process as the bill has moved from second reading to committee stage. Earlier this week, the Standing Committee on Social Policy received delegations regarding the proposed legislation. I applied to speak to the committee about the value of turfgrass in the landscape but unfortunately was not granted a place on the agenda. I did provide a written submission to the committee prior to today's noon deadline.
