Video Features RBC Canadian Open Superintendent

Thanks to Gavin Kellogg for passing on this link which takes you to a video feature done by the Toronto Star. The beautifully produced video features Glen Abbey Golf Club Superintendent Scott Bowman talking about the challenges and rewards of preparing for the 2008 RBC Canadian Open. Scott and his staff put on a stellar performance under pressure that rivalled that of the PGA pros inside the ropes as they dealt with heavy rainfall prior to and during the tournament. They certainly reinforced the notion that Canadian turf managers stand with the best in the world.

Sports Turf Association Releases New Athletic Field Construction Manual

The Sports Turf Association recently released a new Athletic Field Construction Manual. The manual provides a range of specifications for sports fields depending upon the level of intended use. The manual will help to eliminate many of the problems turf managers face in managing fields that are poorly constructed or not properly designed for the level of use they receive. The Athletic Field Construction Manual will no doubt become an essential resource for landscape architects, planners, contractors and sports field managers. For more information about the manual, including excerpts and ordering information, visit the STA website.

Annual Trial Garden Tour

On August 20th, Landscape Ontario is hosting a tour of the annual flower trial gardens at their headquarters in Milton as well as the University of Guelph trial gardens which are located at the GTI. The tour includes a short overview of some of the landscape turf projects at the GTI. For more information, follow this link. The GTI trial gardens will also be featured at the GTI Research Field Day on August 21st.
