Participants attending the 2008 Research Field Day were treated to a beautiful sunny summer day. After welcoming remarks from the Honourable Leona Dombrowsky (Minister of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs), Kevin Falls (President, Ontario Turfgrass Research Foundation) and Dr. Rob Gordon (Dean, Ontario Agricultural College) the approximately 100 participants headed out for a ten stop tour covering a wide range of research from aquatic toxicology to the very latest pesticide alternatives. At one stop, the was a chance to score a goal on the GTI soccer field to win a GTI 20th anniversary hat. Results from current research projects will appear in future GTI Annual Research Reports. Thanks to all the faculty and staff who helped with the field day as well as the industry professionals who took time from their busy schedules to join us for the morning. Our next summer field day will be in 2010.

Out There on the Internet

There is a lot of very interesting and educational information on the Internet. There is also a lot of information that is just "out there". As a service of no particular value to our subscribers other than amusement, we would like to share some of the more unusual turf-related bits of information we have stumbled across on the world wide web. Thanks to Steve Fleischauer for suggesting this feature as well as providing content.

This issue, we look at a very peculiar robo-mower. Not only does it cut grass all by itself, it also produces handy seat cushions and balls for tossing around.
