G.M. Frost Centre

Funding to construct and equip the Centre was provided through the Ontario Turfgrass Research Foundation by individuals, companies and associations interested in high quality turfgrass. The Founding Grant for the Centre came from Mac and Beth Frost of Stouffville, Ontario.

The G.M. Frost Research and Information Centre was made possible by the founding donation of Mac and Beth Frost of Stouffville, Ontario. As developers, owners and managers of golf courses, the Frosts have appreciated for many years the importance of research on turfgrass cultivars and management techniques.

The Centre provides rooms for conferences, lectures and meetings of groups interested in turfgrass, as well as non-turf related organizations. The 7600 sq. ft. of space includes office space for industry organizations and the OMAF turfgrass specialist, meeting and study rooms, as well as a laboratory equipped to facilitate field research on the 150 acre site surrounding the building. A small library and direct computer linkages to other international turf centres will be available to researchers and others using the building.

The G.M. Frost Research and Information Centre is a splendid example of the progress that can be made through the cooperation of various agencies. The private sector, through the Ontario Turfgrass Research Foundation, provided funding for the new building. The University of Guelph, through the Guelph Turfgrass Institute provides research and management expertise, and the Government of Ontario, through The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has provided the land and the major part of the site development support.
