Display Trial getting started
We are looking forward to hosting a Field Day in Guelph on Saturday September 23rd, which will have a focus on the residential lawncare industry. We reached out to some suppliers and asked them to submit one of their products that a homeowner in Ontario would be able to purchase to "improve turf health" or reduce inputs. Several products were donated by industry suppliers, along with recommended application instructions, and others were purchased from "big box stores".
The Display Trial has been established at the GTI, with the following specifications:
- 5 m x 2 m blocks, 3 replications = 30 m2 total area treated per product
- The applications of treatments were limited to no more than once per week
- Start date: April 25, 2023 - or later, based on supplier/manufacturer recommendations
- End date: October 30, 2023 - or earlier, based on supplier/manufacturer recommendations
Note that only PHOTO data will be created and provided, starting with the photo below (Taken pre-treatment, April 25, 2023). The photos of the trial will be shared on this blog and on our @GuelphTurf social media platforms over the 2023 season, and we will create a final report once the trial has been completed. This plot of turf is non-irrigated and was initially established with Kentucky bluegrass sod 3 years ago. You might notice a traffic pattern on the left side of the photo, which was due to moving equipment over the area, but during the trial the area will have minimal foot traffic and no machine traffic. We will be maintaining the height of cut at ~3.5".
The products included in the trial include:
|Scotts||Turf Builder Summerguard||34-0-0||2|
|Acti-Sol||The Mother Hen Fertilizer||5-3-2||4|
|MinRock Tech||Ultimate Compost||6-7-2||3|
|Nutrite||Nutryon HiViz / GreenTRX/ C2Charge||26-0-4||4|
