Meet Dylan Harding – M.Sc. Candidate in the Department of Plant Agriculture

Dylan Harding grew up in Toronto, Ontario. Despite his urban childhood environment, Dylan explains that he has been fascinated by agriculture from a very young age. His passion for agriculture blossomed after high school when he entered a job working at an organic farm in Nova Scotia. His post-secondary farming experiences led Dylan to the realization of how involved farming and agriculture actually was – Dylan made the decision to further his education and come to the University of Guelph (UofG), home of the Ontario Agricultural College.

Meet Steve Rabski - 2nd Year student in the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management Program

Like many Canadian kids, Steve Rabski had childhood aspirations of playing hockey and baseball. At the young age of 14, Steve began his career in the golf industry! He was responsible for collecting garbage and raking bunkers at Twin Stacks Golf Club in Coniston, ON, just outside his hometown of Sudbury. It was at this point in his life that Steve realized he had developed a passion for turfgrass management.

Superintendent in Residence 2016 Wrap-Up!

Lucas Andrews arrived in Guelph on the cold evening of January 31, 2016 – quite a change in temperature from Pointe Vedra Beach, Florida where he currently resides and works! Lucas is an Associate Diploma in Turfgrass (ADTM) 2010 graduate. Since his time at the University of Guelph he has had many huge successes in the golf industry, all while still in his twenties! Some of his most recent successes include being promoted through the roles of Assistant in Training at TPC Sawgrass, Assistant, and now Superintendent at the Dye’s Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass.

GTI Director Rob Witherspoon Retires

Guelph Turfgrass Institute Director, Rob Witherspoon, is retiring from the University of Guelph, on September 1, 2015. Rob has served the University and the turf community in the capacity of Director of the Guelph Turfgrass Institute and Director of the Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management since 1998 and he has been employed by the University of Guelph in various capacities for 28 years. Rob is also an undergraduate and graduate alumni of Guelph.

GTI Research Field Day

The Guelph Turfgrass Institute is hosting a free Field Day on Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 9:30 am to noon. This event will highlight current research being conducted by University of Guelph and OMAFRA researchers including new turf species and cultivar evaluation, turf disease management strategies, fertility trials, drought tolerance and water conservation, biological control of weeds and diseases, new formulations and management strategies for low risk herbicides in lawn care, improving golf course winter hardiness, tree disease management and the annual and perennial trial garden.
