The Superintendent in Residence program is a unique program where an experienced industry professional is invited to spend a few days on campus with Associate Diploma in Turfgrass Management and Turf Managers Short Course students. Students have the opportunity to spend time both in and out of the classroom with the Superintendent in Residence. In addition to spending time with the students, the Superintendent in Residence is invited to give a public lecture covering their career experiences which is attended by students, faculty, industry professionals and the general public. Public lectures that have been broadcast live on the Internet and the recorded webcast is archived and can be accessed by following the links contained within this tab.

"Humility, Essential for Teambuilding"
The Guelph Turfgrass Institute and the University of Guelph's Diploma in Turfgrass Management program are proud to announce the 2018 Superintendent in Residence, Dean Graves. Dean has been the Golf Course Manager at Chevy Chse Club in Chevy Chase Maryland for the past 18 years. Under Graves' leadership, Chevy Chase Club underwent a $6.5 million restoration and grow-in; a significant facility upgrade that restored the classic property which was founded in 1892. Prior to Chevy Chase Club, Graves served as the Golf Course Manager at Bethesda Country Club from 1989 to 2000. At Bethesda CC, Graves had to opportunity of managing a major restoration project as well as hosting prestigious tournaments such as the Greater Washington Open (1989) and the Mazda LPGA Championships (1990-1994).
Dean is well known and respected by staff, work associated and industry peers for his tremendous leadership style which fosters an inclusive culture of good communication, staff motivation and mentoring. Dean received his Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences from The University of Delaware (1979) and later enrolled in the Turf Management Degree at Pennsylvania State University (1981). We are honoured to host Dean Graves as our 2018 Superintendent in Residence and hope you will be able to join us for the presentation.

2017 Thomas Bastis
The Superintendent in Residence for 2017 was Thomas Bastis from the California Golf Club of San Francisco. Bastis is a certified arborist, pest control advisor, certified irrigation auditor and the Turfnet/Syngenta 2010 Superintendent of the Year. He holds a qualified applicators license and C-27 landscape contractor license. Bastis is a advocate of using new and upcoming technology alongside traditional maintenance practices to manage his course in the most environmentally and economically efficient manner.
2016 Lucas Andrews
The Superintendent in Residence for 2016 was Lucas Andrews, Dye's Valley Superintendent at TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, U.S.A. Lucas is a class of 2010 DTM graduate who was inspired in his turfgrass career by 2008 Superintendent in Residence, Gordon McKie, whom he interned with at The Old Course at St. Andrews during his time as a turfgrass student at the University of Guelph.

The Superintendent in Residence for 2015 was Mr. Doug Meyer, superintendent at Beaconsfield Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec. Mr. Meyer graduated from the University of Guelph associate diploma program and worked briefly as a turfgrass research technician on campus before pursuing his career in professional turf management
